In the course of time, from personal SMS to various apps, messages can be exchanged in an instant. Amidst all this, the interest or demand for letter writing is fading away. With platforms like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Telegram being used constantly for sending messages, the importance of messages has diminished. When someone sends an SMS, there is a certain uniqueness in the fact that, in the online age, someone wrote a message offline. In online messaging, it seems that I cannot find the depth of emotion when receiving an instant response.
Technology, in making life easier, has taken away the enthusiasm for physical and mental labor. A study has shown that writing with a pen or pencil leaves a deeper impression on the mind than typing on a keyboard. When writing on a computer, there is the convenience of correcting mistakes and erasing to write clearly. However, when writing with a pen on paper, the opportunity for correction is limited and laborious. The habit of writing letters is very effective for nurturing the artistic spirit. What could be more meaningful than a message infused with the sender's touch? Each letter of a privately written letter holds the deepest secrets of the human mind, unexpressed emotions, bursts of talent, and the history of time.
It's not that I have never written a letter in this age of technology. However, I don't have the experience of giving someone a very long letter. I have often written short notes and given them to many people. The act of writing something on paper to accompany a small gift is something special. When I give someone a gift, I usually attach a short message with it. Especially during book exchanges, writing a few lines of feelings on an empty page may evoke memories even years later, perhaps even in my absence.
A year ago, I sent a letter to someone. She received it, but with a delay. Perhaps it didn't hold much significance for her. She labeled me as a person from the primitive age. Ha ha.
