Why I like Newsboat
I frequently use this tool as an RSS reader, and I find it very useful because it does exactly what it promises. In addition to handling a standard RSS/Atom feeds, I’ve configured it to either download or open YouTube videos in mpv. Back in the day, the RSS subscribe button was prominently displayed on every YouTube account. But that meant users could access YouTube content without visiting the website which negatively effects YouTube’s bottom line, so it was removed.
Newsboat is a feature rich text-based client that makes reading news more enjoyable. I like Newsboat for multiple reasons, some of them are because it’s a client that’s keyboard driven, highly customizable, has support for regular expression filters, macros, running multiple instances (at the same time with different settings/feeds!) and because it even let’s me execute shell scripts.
